“Translating is the best way of reading a text,” Italo Calvino once wrote. It’s also the best way to refine your knowledge of a language. Italian literary translator Silvia Pareschi – who translates American authors including Jonathan Franzen, Don DeLillo, Denis Johnson, E.L. Doctorow, and many others – will show you how to make literary fiction composed in English appear to have been written directly in Italian. The class will be divided into two Saturday sessions. In the first session, Pareschi will explain her translating techniques, and students will bring their own translations to discuss in the second session.
Workshop is in Italian. Pre-registration required.
